Lantern Community Services' (Lantern) mission is to champion the independence and well-being of New Yorkers who are impacted by or threatened with homelessness. Lantern provides innovative services to help New Yorkers who are homeless, formerly homeless or have recently aged out of foster care recreate their lives. Our programs with proven results in health, employment, education and life skills are delivered inside our residences  and tailored to each person's needs.  We provide our clients' many of whom live with mental illness, addiction, disability, HIV or other chronic illnesses' with the tools they need to integrate successfully into the greater community with dignity and independence.


We are seeking an energetic experienced Recruiter who is personable, friendly and well-versed in recruiting the best talent. The recruiter will be responsible for the full-cycle recruitment process for multiple open positions across the organization with the primary focus being our shelter services location in Ozone Park Queens.

Classification:  Exempt  

Reports to:  Director of Human Resources

Location:  Main Office, Midtown Manhattan

Position Type:

This is a full-time position with daytime hours. Lantern staff may be asked to alter their work schedule depending on the operational needs of the business. 

 Essential Functions:

  • Partner and consult with program managers to determine hiring needs for the organization and develop strategies that ensure the best candidates are recruited.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with recruitment sources (e.g. professional societies; city, state and federal employment agencies; colleges and universities and other entities necessary for maintaining a solid networking pipeline.
  • Use social media and company branding to attract and sell the organization to prospective employees.
  • Participate in industry related job fairs to boost company's reputation.
  • Keep candidates informed of their application statuses, background or reference checks on job applicants, particularly those given job offers.
  • Monitor and facilitate candidates through the hiring process and full onboarding (new hire) process.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree required
  • An outgoing and energetic approach to the recruitment process and desire to build and maintain strong relationships with managers, candidates, HR colleagues and external agencies.
  • 2+ years of experience in full-cycle recruiting, ideally supporting the non-profit social services industry.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills
  • Excellent negotiation skills.
  • Strong social aptitude and proven ability to build relationships.
  • Attention to detail and strong organizational ability is required
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively source passive candidates through social media.
  • Must have strong Microsoft Office skills
  • Experience and knowledge of Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS), Balancepoint iSolved Hire a plus.
  • Bilingual skills a plus

Work Environment: This job operates in an office environment. There will be occasional travel to the shelter site as well as to other locations throughout New York City as needed for trainings or meetings.

 Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, stoop, climb stairs and/ or kneel.  They must also use hands to type, handle, or feel.  The employee is frequently required to talk or hear and must occasionally lift and/or move up to 5 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
