Lantern Community Services' (Lantern) mission is to champion the independence and well-being of New Yorkers who are impacted by or threatened with homelessness. Lantern provides innovative services to help New Yorkers who are homeless, formerly homeless or have recently aged out of foster care recreate their lives. Our programs with proven results in health, employment, education and life skills are delivered inside our residences  and tailored to each person's needs.  We provide our clients'many of whom live with mental illness, addiction, disability, HIV or other chronic illnesses'with the tools they need to integrate successfully into the greater community with dignity and independence.


We are seeking a Contract Manager for a new DHS shelter contract.  The successful candidate will have prior experience working in a nonprofit organization with government funders. S/he will have initiative, the ability to work well under pressure, a very high level of Microsoft Office proficiency (with the ability to learn new technologies and databases) and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team to complete projects in a timely manner.

Reports to: Controller

Location:  Main Office, Midtown Manhattan

Position Type:

This is a full-time position with daytime hours. Lantern staff may be asked to alter their work schedule depending on the operational needs of the funder. 


Lantern is seeking a Contract Manager to report to the Controller.  With oversight of multi-million dollar DHS contract, s/he will have the following responsibilities:

  •  Manage the revenue and expense functions for the assigned contract including any other necessary accounting operations.
  • Coordinate timely invoicing with shelter staff and vendors.
  • Prepare voucher for reimbursement to the funder.
  • Carefully monitor actual vs. budgetary expenditures and prepare variance analysis.
  • Maintain electronic and paper reporting back up per organization protocol.
  • Other duties as assigned. 


Other qualifications include:

  • Bachelor's Degree is required
  • Prior experience with government contract compliance
  • Strong Excel skills
  • Previous experience with Balance Point and Financial Edge systems is preferred

Work Environment: This job operates in an office environment. There will be occasional trael to the shelter site as well as to other locations throughout New York City as needed for trainings or meetings.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, stoop, climb stairs and/ or kneel.  They must also use hands to type, handle, or feel.  The employee is frequently required to talk or hear and must occasionally lift and/or move up to 5 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
